The self-esteem of NATs is low, not because of their work so much as the way they are treated when working. Low earnings, the ways in which they are exploited, and physical or psychological maltreatment mould their character and close doors of opportunity.
Since they are often lonely and lacking in adequate attention, they have a negative view of life and of their future, preventing them from adequate emotional development.
