Culture

The NATs have two cultures; one of the countryside and one of the city (and two languages: Quechua and Spanish). They don't speak either one very well. Because of discrimination they are ashamed of their origins. One of the aims of Ñanta is to make them aware of their culture and proud of their origins.

There isn't an area dedicated to this exactly, but a philosophy of the work. For example we take the children on trips to visit ruins or places where we can find traces of Andean culture. In the music workshop an indigenous group was created to show the children the instruments used through the ages: sikuris, tarca, jula-julas, mohoceñas, flauta guarani, etc.

The "q'oas" (indigenous rituals), like chewing coca leaves, are present in the centre as a help in rescuing their culture. And Quechua is not forbidden; the different workshops have Quechuan and Castillian names. In the teaching department we work with traditional Bolivian tales.

A person who knows where they come from is much stronger.
