You are here: Ñanta » What do we do? » Dormitory
The dormitory was created on 15th December 2002, with the intention of providing shelter to 10 adolescents aged between 12 and 18 who don't have a place to sleep, and as migrant workers don't have family in Sucre either. Most of these work as shoeshiners in the central market, the plaza and the street, and are sposed to contact with gangs, alcoholics and drug addicts.
From the start, the dormitory has provided shelter to 35 NATs. Since December 2006, thanks to help from Aine, a friend of Ñanta, the dormitory is able to provide breakfast and an evening meal, helping the benficiaries to improve their diet.
The hours of the dormitory are flexible. The boys of 14 years and over maintain their economic idependence; they work and study depending on the opportunities available to them. The boys aged under 14 work only at weekends, because the policy of Ñanta is to prioritise their schooling - which is assisted by the help Ñanta provides with schoolwork. All of this work is accompanied by the help of the volunterer social work team and our social worker.
